Frequently asked questions

Everything you might want to know before you start — what a home inventory is, why it matters, what it costs, and how WardenLock keeps your information safe.

Getting started

What is WardenLock?
WardenLock is a home inventory app for homeowners and renters. You catalog everything you own — room by room, with photos, serial numbers, receipts and replacement values — so that after a fire, flood, theft or disaster you can prove exactly what you had and get fully paid on your insurance claim.
Do I really need a home inventory?
The average home contains over $250,000 of belongings. After a loss, your insurer asks you to list and prove what you owned — and most people simply can't, so claims get underpaid or denied. A WardenLock inventory turns that stressful guessing game into a documented, ready-to-submit claim.
How long does it take to set up?
Most people document a single room in a few minutes. You don't have to finish in one sitting — add a room here and there, and WardenLock saves your progress so you can pick up exactly where you left off.
What if I'm moving from a spreadsheet?
No problem — WardenLock supports importing your existing list so you can pick up right where you left off, then enrich each item with photos, values and receipts.

Pricing & plans

How much does it cost?
WardenLock is free to use, supported by ads. WardenLock Premium is $4.99 per month and removes all ads while unlocking the insurance PDF export, barcode scanner, secure cloud backup, family sharing for up to six members, and priority support. You can cancel anytime.
Is there a free trial?
Yes — every new account starts with 14 days of WardenLock Premium, free and with no credit card required. When the trial ends, your account automatically reverts to the free, ad-supported plan unless you choose to stay on Premium. You're never charged automatically and never locked out of your inventory.
Do I need a credit card to start?
No. You can create a free account and document your whole home without entering any payment details. You only add a payment method if and when you choose to upgrade to Premium.
Can I cancel Premium anytime?
Yes. You can cancel whenever you want and keep Premium access through the end of your billing period. Your inventory always stays with you, even on the free plan.

Privacy & security

Is my information private and secure?
Yes. WardenLock protects your account with passkeys, two-factor authentication and device session controls. Your inventory is encrypted and backed up to the cloud, and only the household members you invite can ever see it.
Do you sell my data?
Never. We do not sell your data or use your inventory for third-party marketing. The free plan is supported by ads, but your private home inventory stays yours. You can review and manage your analytics preferences anytime from "Your Privacy Choices" in the footer.
What happens to my inventory if I lose my phone?
Nothing is lost. Your inventory is backed up to the cloud and syncs to any device you sign in on. That's the whole point — your proof survives even when your devices don't.

Using the app

Can my whole household use it?
Yes. With Premium you can invite up to six household members to view and build your shared inventory together, with changes syncing live across everyone's devices.
Does it work on my phone and computer?
WardenLock works on the web, iPhone and Android, in perfect sync across every device. Add an item on your phone and it's instantly there on your laptop.
How does the insurance PDF export work?
With Premium, one tap generates a professional PDF with a cover page, your total estimated value, and an itemized list for every room — complete with photos, serial numbers, prices and attached receipts. Hand it straight to your adjuster or keep an off-site copy.
